President Rumen Radev will take part in a ceremony of raising the national flag in Yambol Wednesday evening, the Radevt's press service said.

The ceremony will be preceded by a performance by the Representative Brass Band of the National Guards Unit of Bulgaria. Later, the President will receive the honorary formation. The ceremony will end with a festive fireworks display, the Yambol Municipality said.

The flag, measuring 11 metres by 18 metres, is on a 55-metre flagpole and is already visible over the city. The flagpole is erected on Borovets Hill, the highest place in the city. The initiative was taken by the Municipality of Yambol, and most of the funds were raised by donations from the city's residents. The names of the donors are inscribed on a plaque next to the flagpole.

The history of the Bulgarian flag has a special significance for Yambol, as the idea of creating its first image belongs to the Bulgarian patriot from Yambol Ivan Paraskevov, and its creation in 1877 was the work of his 14-year-old daughter Stiliyana Paraskevova, who sewed the Braila flag - in white, green and red.

Earlier in the day, a monument to Ivan Paraskevov will be unveiled in Yambol. A monument to Stiliana Paraskevova was also erected in the city on March 3, 2022.
