Meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister Elena Shekerletova here on Tuesday, Italian Ambassador in Sofia Guiseppina Zarra expressed her country's firm support for Bulgaria's entry in the Schengen area, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported. The sides discussed the excellent bilateral ties and the options for broader cooperation in the fields of economy, investment, energy, defence, healthcare, culture, science, and education.

Mutual support for candidacies in international organizations was also on the agenda.

Shekerletova and Zarra paid special attention to security in the Black Sea region and Italy's role of framework country of the multinational battlegroup on Bulgarian territory in the context of strengthening NATO's defence potential.
