Bulgarian infrastructure is not adequate to the Bulgarian climate, Environment and Water Minister Julian Popov said on Nova TV on Wednesday. “In addition, we are already witnessing climate change, which means a higher risk of extreme events. Even though yesterday's rainfall was not a record rainfall, we can expect more intense and more frequent rainfall in the future,” he added.
"Before the analyses of the case itself are completed, both in Tsarevo and in neighbouring municipalities, I would refrain from blaming a single person or a single factor. It is obvious that we are talking about a number of factors here," said Popov.
The Minister described the reaction of the authorities on Tuesday as very adequate. "The Prime Minister went there immediately. My Deputy was there very early," he pointed out. He noted that the visits of senior officials in such situations help for the coordination of actions and argued that they are symbolic but not PR.
