A ceremony was held in Sofia Tuesday to cancel a postage stamp dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and the US. The stamp was cancelled by Bulgarian Foreign Minister Mariya Gabriel, Transport Minister Georgi Gvozdeikov and US Ambassador Kenneth Merten.

The anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations is observed on September 19.

The stamp features the letter of credence, which was presented in 1903 to King Ferdinand by the first Minister Plenipotentiary of the US in Bulgaria, John Jackson and was signed by the American President Theodore Roosevelt.

Foreign Minister Gabriel said that Bulgaria and the US are walking side by side towards building a more prosperous, secure world based on democratic values.

Transport Minister Gvozdeikov said that his hope is that the stamp will travel the world as an ambassador for peace, democracy and unity of all nations.

Ambassador Merten said that his country is thankful to Bulgaria for being, all these years and especially at the moment, a very strong partner and ally. He said that the two countries share the Euro-Atlantic values which are at the heart of building a prosperous, secure and democratic world. He expressed optimism that the best is yet to come and that the next 120 years will be more successful and that relations between the two countries will grow stronger.
