More than half of Bulgarian schools (1395) have libraries, while many others also have areas designated for reading, the Education Ministry’s press centre said on Monday quoting a competition on extracullicar and after-school activities, organized by the Association Syndicate of Bulgarian Teachers and the Education Ministry.

The regulated library and information activity in each school is an opportunity to access educational literature, including through modern technologies, as well as a place with certain social functions - for social contacts and familiarisation meetings between students, for conversations and talks with teachers and artists.

From 2020, schools could apply for funding under the Libraries as Learning Environments module of the National Programme for a modern, safe and accessible learning environment. In four years, the Education Ministry has funded over 400 school projects related to providing students with access to literature.

From 2023, those activities are part of the new module: Modern Environment for Quality Education in the Humanities, Arts and Sports under a National Programme for providing a modern, safe and accessible learning environment. A total of 792 schools have applied for the module and their projects are currently being evaluated.

There are currently 1,779 medical offices in schools, with 37 opening in the 2022/2023 school year. A total of 1,617 health professionals have been recruited to look after the health of students. In kindergartens, there are 1,562 offices and 2,294 health professionals, of whom 184 were appointed in the last school year.

The number of logopedic offices in schools is also increasing - there are currently 511 with 477 full-time logopedists.
