The recent amendments to the Criminal Code and the Domestic Violence Protection Act are a sign that we are masters of hasty and ill-considered legislation, created overnight without any evidence or expertise, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tony Dimov from the Institute for the State and the Law at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences said in an interview with BTA.
According to him, all the extraordinary session of the National Assembly achieved was to allow some MPs to do their PR, and to prove once again that politicians cannot be united even in such a sad moment.
Prof. Dimov is of the opinion that any extraordinary, expedient and hasty legislation is dangerous, at least because it is devoid of common sense, reason, and logic.
In his view, the amendments add an insignificant number of new subjects to the scope of the law, while the aim pursued was to extend protection over a significant group of persons, which is not achieved in this way.
