The Navy have reacted to more than 40 alerts about mines or mine-like objects in Bulgarian waters, the commander of the military fleet, Rear Admiral Kiril Mihaylov, said here on Friday. The past year has been complex for the military fleet, mostly because of the war in Ukraine, he noted.

In his words, the Navy provide systematic monitoring of Bulgarian sea waters and ensure maritime security, and the successful implementation of the tasks is achieved mostly thanks to the people in the fleet, to their professionalism and high motivation.

Rear Admiral Mihaylov said two exercises are coming up: Triton and Breeze 2023, which for the first time will be held in October instead of in the summer. Mihaylov thanked the local authorities in Varna for the support over the years, and stated that military seamen will remain on their post and society can rely on them.

The military fleet commander, Varna Regional Governor Andriyana Andreeva, and Varna Mayor Ivan Portnih attended a solemn ceremony at the Admiralty building in Varna where service members and civil servants were awarded on the occasion of the Navy's 144th anniversary.
