Deputy Justice Minister Emil Dechev described Bulgaria's failure to nominate the required number of European delegated prosecutors as a "major and important issue", explaining on Thursday that the question why this happened should be directed to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC).

"As far as I remember, there have been four elections so far and not once have they managed to fill the initial number of 10 European delegated prosecutors for Bulgaria", he pointed out and added that the number has been increased to 15.

On July 31, the SJC announced that a total of 17 magistrates have submitted applications for participation in the selection procedure for seven European delegated prosecutors from Bulgaria.
