Parliament adopted Monday for the second time the Act to Supplement the Judicial System Act that President Rumen Radev vetoed on August 1. A total of 131 MPs voted in favour, 47 against and 6 abstained.

On August 1, Radev signed a decree returning to the National Assembly for further discussion the amendments to the Judicial System Act. The amending law, passed on July 21, 2023, revises the system for random selection of a judge under the mechanism for investigation of the prosecutor general and sets a six-month deadline for the election of a new complement of the Supreme Judicial Council.

On 3 August, the Legal Affairs Committee also overrode the head of State's veto.
