Relatives of people who have died in traffic accidents held a protest march in downtown Sofia on Sunday. They started out by gathering in front of the National Assembly.

Some of them said they had expected stronger support and more people joining the demonstration. They intended to block the landmark Eagles Bridge, but later changed their mind as they saw that they were not many.

A protester said: "Fine, let the drunk and the stoned drive on, we are not closing Eagles Bridge." Another one added: "If the institutions did their job, we would not be here."

Some said with apparent anguish: "Our children had dreams".

Demonstrators carried signs which read: "Stop drink and drug driving"; "How much does a child's life cost?"; and "We want time limits for presenting expert opinions".

The crowd called for more severe punishments for those who cause traffic accidents, and faster and more effective justice.

They marched to the Palace of Justice, where they threw small coins in front of the building, saying: "This is the price you set for our children". The protesters kneeled down in commemoration of the victims of traffic accidents.
