A total of 170 fires were extinguished across Bulgaria on Friday, 103 of them in dry-grass areas and forests, the Directorate General for Fire Safety and Civil Protection (FSCP) says on its website. Three people were injured in fire-related incidents over the 24-hour period.
FSCP received 212 alerts on Friday. Forty rescue and auxiliary operations were carried out.
On Saturday, a wildfire near Mednikarovo, South-Central Bulgaria was reported as extinguished less than a day after it was first reported. The blaze affected a pine forest in immediate proximity to the village. Seven fire engines from Stara Zagora Region and four from neighbouring regions were sent to the scene. Tracked vehicles from the Maritsa East Mines were used to clear a swath of land to protect the village.
