Turkiye and Armenia agreed to increase the number of flights between cities in the two countries starting in the summer of 2026, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said. The decision followed a meeting in Yerevan between Turkiye’s special envoy for the normalization process with Armenia, Serdar Kilic, and his Armenian counterpart, Ruben Rubinyan. Earlier in the day, the two had conferred at the Turkish–Armenian border.
“During the meeting in Yerevan, guided by their desire to advance the process, the representatives of the two states reaffirmed the issues discussed and progress made at the previous meeting. In this context, the implementation of the agreement on the restoration of border crossings, signed at the July 1, 2022 meeting, was discussed. The representatives agreed that this process should be accelerated,” the official statement said.
The two countries also agreed to take technical steps to rehabilitate and put back into service the railway line and catenary system between Kars and Gyumri.
The meeting also produced a decision to expand cooperation in culture and education, with student scholarships to be provided. In addition, the bridge linking Armenia and Turkiye at Kars will be restored through joint efforts.
