Fog caused significant disruptions in air traffic at Istanbul’s Sabiha Gökçen Airport on Wednesday, CNN Türk reported.

Due to adverse weather conditions over the past few days, many flights to and from the airport had been cancelled. On Wednesday alone, some 20% of flights were called off. Poor visibility further complicated airport operations Wednesday, forcing many inbound flights to circle over Istanbul before landing. Visibility returned to normal in the early afternoon.

Meanwhile, the severe weather also led to the closure of schools in Istanbul.

In a statement posted on his social media account, Istanbul Governor Davut Gül said that snowfall in the city was negatively affecting daily life. As a result, classes in all educational institutions were suspended for one day on Wednesday, February 12. Additionally, public sector employees with disabilities, chronic illnesses, and pregnant women were granted administrative leave for the day, Gül added.
