After a canopy over the railway station in Novi Sad, Serbia's second largest city, collapsed on Friday, killing at least 14 and injuring another 30 people, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said in an address on Friday night that those responsible for the incident will be held accountable, N1 reported.

In his address, broadcast live from Novi Sad on RTS, the President said: "As president, I demand that the prosecution service investigate and punish the people responsible for this."

Vucic confirmed the number of fatalities, among whom was a national of North Macedonia.

The head of State called for unity and support for the victims' families and praised the rescue teams and construction workers who used heavy equipment to remove the rubble.

Saturday is a day of national mourning in Serbia in tribute to the victims of the tragedy.
