Razgrad Region maintains a high share of training in STEM profiles and professions, with nearly 70% of the annual state admission plan carried out in such specialties, Tsveta Petrova from the Regional Education Directorate in Razgrad said during a local conference as part of BTA's Europe on Balkans: Cohesion Skills project. The conference took place at the BTA National Press Club here on Friday.

She pointed out that the region has built STEM centres with European funding and that new ones will be constructed under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, adding that a total of 48 educational institutions are implementing projects under the programme for modernizing the educational environment.

Educational institutions in Razgrad Region actively participate in the national programmes for the development of education and in the launched projects under the Education Program 2021 - 2027, which is co-financed by the European Union, Petrova noted.

"The fact is that with the development of artificial intelligence, today's children and students will live and work in a world much different from the one we know, and which will require a wider range of competencies and skills, such as logical thinking, functional literacy, discipline of thinking, concentration, socio-emotional intelligence, the formation of attitudes and responsible behavior towards the world around us. It is precisely the formation of skills that is the emphasis in the vision of the Education and Science Ministry for beginning structural change in curricula, in order to prepare our students for the professions of the future," Petrova said regarding the ministry's draft concept for changes in the educational programmes.

She emphasised that the first stage of the international project Strengthening the Capacity of Bulgaria and Romania for Curriculum Reforms is also beginning, with the project supported by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and the European Commission.

BTA's Europe on Balkans: Cohesion Skills project aims to raise public awareness and foster open dialogue about cohesion policy, local achievements, and the implementation of the EU's policy priorities. The project kicked off with a conference in Veliki Preslav in November 2024. Until September 2025, BTA will host discussions at its press clubs in the following cities: Blagoevgrad, Burgas, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Vidin, Vratsa, Gabrovo, Dobrich, Kazanlak, Kardzhali, Kyustendil, Lovech, Montana, Pazardzhik, Pernik, Pleven, Razgrad, Ruse, Samokov, Svishtov, Sliven, Smolyan, Sofia, Stara Zagora, Troyan, Targovishte, Haskovo, Shumen, and Yambol. Cross-border conferences will be held in Belgrade, Bosilegrad, Bucharest, Edirne, Skopje, and Thessaloniki. The project builds on the Europe in the Balkans: A Common Future and Europe in Bulgaria: A Common Future projects, implemented by BTA in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
