The municipality of Dimitrovgrad (Tsaribrod) in Serbia, home mostly to ethnic Bulgarians, will celebrate its holiday with a broad programme of events, Mayor Vladica Dimitrov told BTA.

The highlight of the celebrations on Saturday will be a Municipal Council meeting, which is expected to attract a large number of residents. The day marks the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, according to the old calendar.

Among the guests will be Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Serbia Petko Doykov, the Bulgarian Consul General in Nis, Dimitar Tsanev, municipality mayors from the two countries, and a representative of Serbia’s Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Dimitrov noted.

Bulgarian News Agency Director General Kiril Valchev and Bulgarian National Radio Director General Milen Mitev will also attend.

The programme includes an unveiling of an exhibition by artist Metodi “Meta” Petrov (1920 - 1995), born in the village of Zeljusa near Dimitrovgrad, at the local gallery.

On Sunday, a lyutenitsa (a red-pepper-and-tomato spread) festival will be held as part of the celebrations.
