Bulgarian Consulate General in Thessaloniki Notified of Incident with Bulgarian Citizens in Halkidiki

The Consulate General of Bulgaria in Thessaloniki has been notified of an incident with Bulgarian citizens in Chaniotis, Halkidiki, Greece. Official information from Greek authorities is still pending, said the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry regarding media information about a shooting between Bulgarian citizens in Greece.

The Bulgarian Consulate General in Thessaloniki is monitoring the situation and is in constant contact with the Greek authorities, the Foreign Ministry added.

CNN's Greek section reports of a bloody clash that left three men injured at a famous beach bar on Halkidiki peninsula. The motives for the incident remain unknown. Greek media report that three Bulgarians were involved.

According to the Greek portal Halkidiki Focus, the incident took place shortly before midnight on Friday in a beach bar in Chaniotis. 

One man was wounded in the chest with a firearm, another was stabbed with a knife and one had injuries from a beating, thestival.gr reported, adding that all three were Bulgarian citizens. The wounded were taken to the hospital in Polygyros. The health condition of the man who was shot is assessed by doctors as "particularly serious". Police are gathering statements from eyewitnesses to establish the circumstances under which the incident occurred. It is believed that people from the Bulgarian mafia may have been involved, the portal writes.
