Three people got a chance for a new life after the relatives of a 66-year-old woman decided to donate her organs on Thursday at the Tsaritsa Yoanna – ISUL University Hospital in Sofia, the medical facility said.

As a result, a 36-year-old man got a chance for life after a team from the Military Medical Academy, led by Assoc. Prof. Vasil Mihaylov, performed a successful liver transplant.

At the Lozenets University Hospital, a medical team from the Urology Clinic, headed by Dr. Boril Petrov, performed two kidney transplants to two male patients aged 44 and 58.

According to information from the medical facilities, the patients are in good general condition and remain under medical supervision in intensive care units.

Corneas, skin and bone tissue were also donated and will be transplanted to other patients in need, in order to significantly improve their quality of life.

The Ministry of Health and the Executive Agency for Medical Supervision expressed sincere condolences to the donor's relatives and deep gratitude for their noble decision, taken in a difficult moment, to save human lives, as well as to the teams of medical institutions for performing the successful procedures.

"In these bright days, when we recall the power of goodness and hope, this transplant is not only a medical success, but also a deeply human story about the meaning of life and empathy," the statement further stated.
