site.btaBlockade Interrupts Work of Serbia’s National TV

Students, civilians and military veterans blockaded the entrances of the Serbian national broadcaster RTS (Radio Television of Serbia) in downtown Belgrade on Thursday morning, as well as the studios located in Kosutnjak Park, to prevent employees from going to their workplaces. For this reason, RTS did not broadcast its morning programme.
Early in the morning, police formed a cordon to let the television employees pass, and in response, students blocked the police cars, blowing vuvuzela horns and chanting "No one is tired, RTS is blocked!"
For the first time since the beginning of the TV blockade, which started at 10 pm on April 14, the morning shift of security guards at the RTS building failed to relieve their colleagues from the previous night.
Since Thursday morning, three streets around the RTS building have been blocked, with containers placed as barricades.
The students, who are blocking more than 60 faculties in Serbia, posted on their Instagram account on Wednesday evening a letter to the parliamentary committee for culture and information, demanding a public call for a new competition for members of the Council of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM).
The protesters announced that the blockade of the RTS will continue until a new competition is announced.
