The Association of Independent Artists, Musicians and Singers (AIAMS) presented its first annual Appreciation Awards in the ballroom of the Intercontinental Hotel in Sofia on Monday evening. The ceremony brought together popular Bulgarian music artists, politicians, representatives of government institutions and non-governmental organizations, as well as the media. The AIAMS also honoured partners in its campaigns and causes, including the Bulgarian News Agency.

"One of our biggest missions is to show continuity between generations and give a stage to young performers," explained hosts Galya Georgieva and Atanas Lazarov. One of the great merits of AIAMS is the lifetime monthly awards for outstanding performers who have contributed to the development of Bulgarian music, a case that was resolved with the support of the 51st National Assembly, the Association said. The organisation, through joint efforts with its partners, has succeeded in securing pre-retirement social support for artist-performers through the Employment Agency, the organisers said.

As a token of gratitude to organizations and institutions sympathetic to the causes, AIAMS Board Chairman Peyo Peev personally presented the first awards - certificates and paintings, to the Podkrepa Confederation of Labour, Bulgarian National Radio, MPs of the parliamentary groups of GERB and There Is Such a People, and the National Employment Agency. The paintings were created by artists under the Social Innovations programme of Sofia Municipality, painted through innovative digital art technology by children and young people from the Miracles Center for Social Rehabilitation and Integration with the Silence Association, said the presenters.

Announcing the award for BTA, Atanas Lazarov said: "The Bulgarian News Agency and BTA Director General Kiril Valchev supported the Concerts for a Cause tour all summer." The award was received on behalf of BTA by Antoaneta Markova, head of the LIK Directorate for Knowledge and Culture.

Among the awarded media were also: Radio Focus, Blitz News Agency, the Trud daily, the Standart weekly, Bulgaria ON AIR media group, Nova TV, and Varna TV.
