According to a survey by the Trend Research Centre, the majority of Bulgarians (63%) mark or celebrate March 8. The holiday is observed to a greater extent by women – nearly eight in ten give a positive response. Nearly two-thirds of women (65%) say they feel more special on the festive day.
The survey, commissioned by the 24 Chasa daily, focuses on attitudes toward International Women's Day. It was conducted between February 10 and 16, 2025, through direct semi-standardized face-to-face tablet interviews with 1,001 adult citizens.
The results show that 43% of Bulgarians view March 8 as purely a festive occasion. Three in ten believe that beyond its celebratory aspect, the date also holds important social significance – this is an opinion expressed more frequently by women. For 18% of the respondents, the holiday is outdated and unimportant.
The dominant perception is that March 8 is a celebration of all women – 62% of respondents hold this view. For 20%, it is a holiday dedicated to mothers. According to 8%, the date is a socialist holiday, while 5% associate it primarily with the struggle for women's rights.
