site.btaJustice Minister Georgiev Discusses Recovery and Resilience Plan in Brussels
Bulgaria’s Justice Minister Georgi Georgiev took part in a meeting of the EU Justice and Home Affairs Council in Brussels on Friday, Georgiev’s Ministry said in a press release. He met with European Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law and Consumer Protection Michael McGrath and Director-General for Justice and Consumers Ana Gallego to discuss the implementation of the Recovery and Resiliency Plan (RRP).
Meetings were also held with European Commission representatives directly responsible for Member States' RRPs.
Minister Georgiev presented key aspects of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan that the Zhelyazkov Cabinet is working on to ensure the second payment under the plan. These aspects include the rules for the election of members of the counter-corruption commission, amendments to the Whistleblowers Protection Act, the introduction of compulsory mediation, and а natural persons bankruptcy bill.
The discussions also focused on commitments that future payments depend on, such as legislative amendments aimed at improving the efficiency of criminal proceedings, and the legal framework for e-justice in administrative cases.
Georgiev briefed the EU Justice Ministers on Bulgaria's position on a proposed directive harmonizing certain aspects of insolvency law. The Justice Council also discussed the implementation of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU and cooperation in the fight against international organized crime, among other issues.
