221 Mln U.S. Dollars in 2018

May 16 (BTA) - Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister for Economy Luchezar Borissov participated in an economic and investment seminar, where he noted that in 2018, bilateral trade between Bulgaria and South Africa reached 221 million U.S. dollars, the Economy Ministry said Thursday in a press release. The seminar was organized by the South African Embassy in Sofia and the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Borissov called for encouraging initiatives that aim to contribute to the development of the mutually beneficial trade and investment cooperation between Bulgaria and the South African Republic.

He noted that Bulgarian export to South Africa totalled 178 million U.S. dollars in 2018, and import totalled 43 million dollars. In the past years, Bulgaria mainly exported petroleum oils, copper bars, batteries, sunflower and safflower oil, and fruits. Import from South Africa included sheep skin, wool, coal, transportation vehicles, and cars.

Borissov said Bulgaria wants to attract South African investments in the spheres of high-tech industry, IT, electronics and electrical engineering, machine building, joint production of car parts, pharmaceutical products, and agriculture. LI/TH
