Severe cold weather continues to grip Turkiye, with temperatures in Eastern Turkiye dropping to nearly minus 30 degrees Celsius on Monday night, according to Turkish media reports.

The coldest temperatures have been recorded in Erzurum Province, where the town of Karayazı saw a low of minus 29.1C. Extreme cold also persists in Kars province, with temperatures in Sarikamış dropping to minus 25 degrees overnight. The freezing conditions have affected other provinces, including Muş, Bitlis, and Ardahan.

A temperature record was set in Göle, Ardahan, where minus 33.8C was recorded on Sunday, as reported by NTV. Heavy snowfall has also led to roadblocks, cutting off access to dozens of villages in Eastern Turkiye, according to Anadolu Agency.

In the capital, Ankara, temperatures have remained around minus 10C over the past several days.

Surprisingly, the cold wave has even reached the coastal resort of Antalya, where the climate typically allows swimming year-round. Over the past 24 hours, temperatures there have dropped to minus one degree Celsius.
