The international competition European Money Quiz will be held in Bulgaria for the first time this year, the University of National and World Economy said on Wednesday. Eight- and ninth-graders from five schools in Sofia, Plovdiv, and Burgas will compete at the national level within European Money Week, from March 17 to 21, and the two participants with the highest score will go to Brussels for the international finals against the national winners from over 35 countries.

In Brussels, the two winners from Bulgaria will also visit the European Banking Association and many EU institutions as well as take part in various events and activities.

European Money Quiz in Bulgaria is organized by the Association of Economic Schools in Bulgaria, established ten years ago at UNWE, and the Association of Banks in Bulgaria. The international competition has been held since 2017 at the initiative of the national banking associations in Europe to promote financial literacy among high-school students.

Association of Economic Schools in Bulgaria head Daniela Feschiyan said that the initiative will place Bulgaria on the European map of economic competitions and will have a huge effect on young people.

UNWE Rector Dimitar Dimitrov expressed his support for the initiative, noting the importance of cooperation between the academic community, secondary education, and businesses.

UNWE Deputy Rector for International Activity Yanko Hristozov said that as the coordinator of the memorandum of cooperation between UNWE and the Association of Banks in Bulgaria, he is extremely satisfied that the agreement begins to work. He expressed confidence that the two associations will act in coordination and will surely achieve very good results.

Association of Banks in Bulgaria Secretary General James Jolovski said that for the banking sector, financial literacy is a big priority. In his words, that is why it is important to encourage students from an early age to develop in that direction, to present to them the professions in the banking sector so that these would be more attractive and the students would orient themselves in their future career.
