Minister of the Interior Daniel Mitov held a working meeting with the Ambassador of Poland to Bulgaria Maciej Szymanski. Mitov expressed gratitude for Poland's consistent support for Bulgaria's accession to the Schengen area and wished success to the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU. Mitov also expressed readiness for active coordination on priorities in the field of home affairs.

The common challenges in the area of security in the Schengen area and the protection of the EU's external borders that both countries face were also discussed. Mitov expressed readiness to expand cooperation to improve joint responses and to more effectively counter organized crime and illegal migration.

Ambassador Szymanski noted Poland's readiness to further build on bilateral contacts. As a practical example of the existing good cooperation, he pointed to the joint Bulgarian-Polish patrols at the Black Sea resorts during the summer tourist season, which have proven their effectiveness over the years and are to be organized in 2025 as well.

At the end of the meeting, Mitov and Szymanski agreed on concrete steps to expand cooperation, including joint trainings and exchange of expertise and good practices.
