Former deputy finance minister Lyudmila Petkova has been appointed Director of the Public Financial Inspection Agency (PFIA), a check on the institution's website shows. The Agency's head is appointed by the Finance Minister.

Petkova was caretaker deputy prime minister and finance minister before being appointed deputy finance minister in the cabinet of Rosen Zhelyazkov in January. She was removed from office by the Prime Minister on February 4.

Petkova will take the place of Georgi Yordanov, who she herself appointed PFIA Director on April 22, 2024.

The PFIA is an administration under the Minister of Finance, established in 2006 following a major reform of the State Internal Financial Control. The Agency's main objective is to protect public financial interests by carrying out ex-post financial inspections to ensure compliance with the regulations governing budgetary discipline, financial management or accounting activities of the organisations and persons within its scope of activity.
