Bulgaria and India will intensify their cooperation in various sectors of mutual interest, such as information technology, high-tech manufacturing, the automotive sector and industry. This was discussed at a meeting between Minister of Economy and Industry Peter Dilov and Ambassador of the Republic of India to Bulgaria Arun Kumar Sahu, Economy Ministry said in a press release on Monday.

Minister Dilov and the Indian Ambassador talked about opportunities to improve bilateral investment and trade.

"We consider bilateral investment cooperation as particularly promising, which is an important priority for the Bulgarian side, especially attracting investments in the field of high-tech industries," Minister Dilov stressed. He noted that there are various opportunities for Indian companies to invest in the Bulgarian industrial zones, where Indian manufacturing companies with export orientation to the European market can be positioned.

There already are examples of successful Indian investments in Bulgaria in the field of information technology and outsourcing services, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, automotive, film industry, tourism and hospitality.

As a step in the direction of deepening bilateral cooperation, it was discussed to hold this year a meeting of the Bulgarian-Indian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation. It was pointed out that the Committee has not met for seven years, and over the years it has played a key role in promoting bilateral partnership. The sides agreed that it would be beneficial to organize a business forum within the framework of the forthcoming meeting, which would be a suitable platform for opening new partnerships between Bulgarian and Indian companies.

In the January-October 2024 period, bilateral trade amounted to USD 366.1 million, it transpired at Monday's meeting.
