site.btaBulgarian Interior Minister, Turkish Ambassador Discuss Upcoming Trilateral Meeting in Istanbul

Bulgarian Interior Minister Atanas Ilkov and Turkish Ambassador in Sofia Mehmet Sait Uyanik conferred here on Thursday, Ilkov's Ministry said in a press release. They discussed a meeting of the interior ministers of Bulgaria, Turkiye and Greece, due to take place in Istanbul on January 14.

The trilateral meeting is intended to assess the results of the trilateral professional cooperation mechanism that was launched in September 2023 and to outline its prospects.

The Bulgarian Interior Minister confirmed to the Turkish diplomat the usefulness of the mechanism and, in this context, singled out the joint results achieved with regard to border security and combating irregular migration.

Ambassador Uyanik congratulated Bulgaria on its full membership in the Schengen area.
