The Prosecutors Chamber of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) appointed Vanya Stefanova as Deputy Prosecutor General during its first session this year. The decision was voted unanimously. It was on the proposal of Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov. 

Prosecutors Chamber member Kalina Chapkanova said that this proposal was late because Sarafov had been working for a long time with only one deputy-Elena Karakasheva. There are currently three vacant deputy prosecutor positions, seriously hampering Sarafov's work as acting Prosecutor General, Chapkanova argued.

She cited data according to which Stefanova meets all the criteria for the election.

Currently, Vanya Stefanova heads the specialised department at the Supreme Prosecutor's Office.

Gergana Mutafova, a member of the SJC, also supported the motion and said that another deputy prosecutor general should be voted.
