The Botanical Garden of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) is offering a display of tropical plants in its greenhouse, where various species of orchids and azaleas are currently in bloom.
Throughout the week, including on Saturday, January 11, visitors have the opportunity to explore the greenhouse and observe the vibrant colours of azaleas, camellias, and numerous orchid species. Among the orchids on display are vandas, slipper orchids, cattleyas, and their hybrids, all blooming during this period.
Located at the foot of Vitosha Mountain, the Botanical Garden is home to one of the most diverse plant collections on the Balkans. Its extensive collection includes over 4,500 species and forms of plants, representing more than 1% of the world's higher plant diversity.
More than 3,300 species from all continents are cultivated in the garden, which also features a specialized hall for educational and botanical events. The combination of tropical blooms and the unique plant collection offers an enriching experience for visitors at this time of year.
