Caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev will visit the Bulgarian-Romanian border control checkpoint near Ruse, the Government Information Service said Friday. Glavchev will get acquainted on site with the current situation and coordinate additional measures for easing the traffic across the Danube Bridge and increasing the efficiency of border control in view of Bulgaria's expected entry in Schengen by land in January 2025.
On Thursday, the caretaker Prime Minister visited the Danube Bridge 2 border control checkpoint near Vidin. There, he said that a working group which was initially assigned to address the issue of parking facilities in border areas will be transformed into a taskforce in charge of re-organizing Bulgarian state structures for Bulgaria's Schengen accession.
The final decision on Bulgaria and Romania joining Schengen by land on January 1, 2025 is expected to be taken by the Council of the European Union on December 12. The two countries entered the border-free area by air and sea in March 2024.
