Bulgarian grandmaster Ivan Cheparinov ranked fifth at the European Individual Chess Championship 2024 in Petrovac, Montenegro, on Tuesday.

In the final 11th round, Cheparinov (white) drew against Spaniard Maksim Chigaev. The Bulgarian, Chigaev and eleven other chess players finished the competition with a total of eight points.

Serbian Aleksandar Indjic became European champion with 9 points after he drew against second-placed Belgian Daniel Dardha (8,5 points) in the last round. 

The bronze medal went to German Frederik Svane (also 8 points). 

With his ranking among the top 20 Cheparinov secured his spot for the FIDE World Cup in 2025. The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has not yet announced where the tournament will be held.
