Bulgaria's average annual milk yield is among the lowest in the European Union, with dairy farms producing approximately 3,591 kg per cow in 2023, according to Eurostat data published on Monday.

Romania reported the lowest average yield, at 3,425 kg per cow. The average milk yield in the EU also increased, reaching 7,791 kg per cow in 2023. Estonia and Denmark led the EU, with average yields of 10,728 kg and 10,400 kg per cow, respectively.

EU dairy farms produced an estimated 160.8 million tonnes of raw milk in 2023, marking an increase of 0.8 million tonnes compared to the previous year and 15.8 million tonnes since 2013.

In Bulgaria, total raw milk production amounted to 815,770 tonnes in 2023, down from 868,600 tonnes in 2022, the Eurostat report showed.
