A delegation of the National and University Library St. Kliment Ohridski in Skopje is taking part in a working meeting with officials from the Sts. Cyril and Methodius National Library in Sofia. The forum is part of a series of bilateral meetings on the future of libraries: approaches and practices in library collections management between the two libraries, the Bulgarian National Library said on Thursday.

The meeting takes place with financial support of the Bulgarian Culture.

Prof. Krasimira Alexandrova opened the meeting and presented the strategic tasks of the National Library of Bulgaria until 2026. The deputy directors and heads of departments did presentations on the most significant library activities.

Jovica Nikchevski, Director of Skopje’s National and University Library together with Prof. Alexandrova, North Macedonia’s Ambassador Agneza Rusi Popovska, Dr. Silva Hacherian, head of the Department for Regional Cultural Activities with the Bulgarian Culture Ministry and officials from the two national libraries, opened a visiting exhibition on "Presenting Cultural Heritage in an Innovative Way" from Europe House Skopje. On display are objects whose craftsmanship is inspired by ornamentation in Slavic manuscripts from the 13th-17th centuries, part of the archaeographic collection of Skopje’s National and University Library. The artefacts were created by renowned designers and craftsmen from North Macedonia, based on elements from the manuscripts of four medieval gospels held in the collection of Skopje’s National Library.

On Friday, experts from Bulgaria’s National Library will share with their counterparts from North Macedonia practices in the management of library collections.
