The Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) will have a new chairman and his name will not be Delyan Peevski, one of the party's two chairmen, Dzhevdet Chakarov, said in his position, quoted by the press centre of "MRF Dogan" on Thursday. The other MRF Chairman is Delyan Peevski, who is also the leader of MRF-New Beginning. Peevski said earlier in the day that he was convening an extraordinary MRF national conference on December 22.
Peevski ran in the October 27 snap parliamentary elections with his now formation MRF-New Beginning, which he formed following a rift with MRF's Honorary Chairman Ahmed Dogan. Dogan in turn ran in the elections with the Alliance for Rights and Freedoms. Both Peevski and Dzhevdet Chakarov remain MRF's two chairmen.
"It is illogical for a person who was expelled from the Central Operative Bureau (COB) of the MRF by a decision from August 27, 2024, and confirmed by the Central Council (CC) of the MRF on September 23, 2024, to continue acting like a chairman of the MRF and to mislead the Bulgarian public, Chakarov's position said. It says that "the persons Delyan Peevski, Halil Letifov, Stanislav Anastassov, Yordan Tsonev, Iskra Mihaylova, Hamid Hamid, Erten Anisova, Radoslav Revanski are not part of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms and do not represent the ideas and values of the party that we have been following for 35 years with our leader Dr Ahmed Dogan".
The MRF is a living organism and strictly follows its Charter and the decisions of its collective bodies, Chakarov pointed out and adds that there are no "straw men" in the party and the voice of every member is heard and taken into account. "Mr Peevski and his avatars have the right to develop in their new political project - "New Beginning", which will only contribute to the destruction of democracy in Bulgaria," Chakarov said.
The national conference of the MRF will be on another date, which the Bulgarian public will find out soon and the party will have its new chairman and he will not be named Delyan Slavchev Peevski, Chakarov's position reads. MRF is where its founder, first chairman and only leader Dr Ahmed Dogan is, the position further states.
