A sculpture entitled The Heart Travels in memory of Vaclav Havel, playwright, writer, human rights activist, dissident and the first president of the Czech Republic, was unveiled here on Thursday. The piece of art created by Czech artist Prof. Kurt Gebauer is located at Sofia's square named after the Czech president.

The event was initiated by numerous Bulgarians, Sofia Discussion Forum (SDF), America for Bulgaria Foundation (ABF), Sofia Municipality and the Cultural Information Centre of Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski.

Petar Stoynov, co-founder of SDF, said: "I am glad that the day has come when, after a seven-year battle, we can make Havel's name mentioned in Bulgaria and Sofia more often. We have the opportunity to unveil this wonderful place."

Deputy Ambassador of Czechia to Bulgaria Jan Jindrich said that Havel and his legacy are a very important part of culture and diplomacy. Jindrich called Thursday's event a proof of the closeness between the Bulgarian and Czech people.

Among the attendees were the Director of the Archives State Agency Mihail Gruev, financial expert Levon Hampartzoumian, ABF President Nancy Schiller and actor Simeon Vladov.
