Turkiye plans to abolish state subsidies for large household electricity consumers from February 2025, Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said on Wednesday, as quoted by Turkish media. In accordance with the latest regulation adopted by the energy regulator, citizens and dwellings with monthly consumption twice bigger than the average, namely 417 kWh, will start paying the real price of electricity after February, Bayraktar specified.

According to him, out of about 40 million household electricity consumers in Turkiye, high-consumption consumers account for about 3%, the DHA news agency reported. These are consumers with larger houses and those who have electric vehicles, Bayraktar said.

He added that the planned change aims to direct state subsidies to citizens who need them the most.
