A specialized police operation was carried out in the Comprehensive Cancer Centre – Vratsa (CCC-Vratsa) with the participation of the State Agency for National Security (SANS), the Gendarmerie and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Speaking to reporters later in the day, CCC-Vratsa Director Dr. Grigor Tomov said that the checks were due to alerts to the General Directorate Combating Organized Crime (GDCOC) and the ACC that he is not doing his job and is leading the CCC-Vratsa to losses. "I am being investigated, I have not yet been charged," Tomov added.

Later in the day, the Sofia Appellate Prosecution Office said in a press release that the Sofia District Prosecutor's Office is leading an investigation into mismanagement and negligence on a particularly large scale at the hospital.

At this stage of the investigation, evidence is being gathered to determine whether in the period from January 2022 to May 2024, Dr. Tomov - an official holding a senior public position -deliberately failed to take sufficient care in the management, administration, maintenance and preservation of the property entrusted to him, how he was performing his duties, and whether his work resulted in significant damage to the company. There is also information of unlawful medical practices in the medical establishment and unauthorised use of funds from the budget of the National Health Insurance Fund. The investigation continues under the supervision of the Sofia District Prosecutor's Office.

The CCC-Vratsa provides care to about ten thousand patients from the regions of Montana, Vratsa and Vidin.
