Bulgarians' Trips Abroad Up 5.2%, Foreigners' Visits Up 4.6% in September 2024, Y/Y

Bulgarians' trips abroad numbered 858,600 in September 2024, up by 5.2% from the like month of 2023, show data released by the National Statistical Institute (NSI) on Monday. Foreigners made a total of 1,261,700 trips to Bulgaria, which is an increase by 4.6% from September 2023.

Compared to the pre-COVID 2019, Bulgarians' trips abroad increased in number (from 653,600), but foreigners' visits to Bulgaria dropped (from 1,286,400), shows a check in the NSI data.

In September 2024, the biggest number of trips by Bulgarians were made to Greece (248,600), Turkiye (236,700), Serbia (63,500), Romania (60,700), and Germany (52,900). In comparison, in September 2019 Bulgarians travelled the most to Greece, Turkiye, Serbia, Romania, and Germany.

In September 2024, the most visits to Bulgaria were made by nationals of Turkiye (209,000), Romania (188,300), Ukraine (133,900), Germany (104,500), Greece (90,400), Serbia (69,800), Poland (68,000), the UK (49,200), the Republic of North Macedonia (36,600), and Czechia (22,200). In comparison, in September 2019 Bulgaria was visited the most by nationals of Turkiye (157,600 visits), Romania (157,500), Germany (145,800), Greece (92,100), Poland (72,500), the UK (62,000), Ukraine (60,700), Serbia (58,600), the Republic of North Macedonia (44,800), the Russian Federation (41,600 visits, compared to 6,967 in 2024), and Czechia (30,555).
