Digitization and artificial intelligence (AI) make the Bulgarian tourism industry more competitive, the President of the Varna Association of Restaurants and Hotels (VARH), Pavlin Kosev, said on Thursday. According to him, the sector was successfully restarted after the coronavirus pandemic, and the summer of 2024 yielded very good results.

Kosev said: "Robots are being phased in to do the cleaning job of chambermaids and to replace waiters. AI is also being adopted to manage the processes of the hotels' own supply services, allowing staff to pay more attention to guests. AI also helps with the pricing because it can monitor the marketing policies of competitors and the demand by tourists."

The VARH president is among the organizers of TOURISM EXPO Destination Varna, which opened at the Sts. Constantine and Helena Resort on Thursday. Over 180 hotel owners from across Bulgaria are taking part in the eighth installment of the event. Guests from Romania are at the forum as well, said Doret Dimitrova, who runs a business website.

Dimitrova and Kosev were adamant that there is international interest in Bulgaria as a travel destination, including in many parts of Asia, but the country should be advertised much more actively.
