site.btaForeign Minister Kondov Confers with Ambassadors of EU Member States
Foreign Minister Ivan Kondov met with the heads of the embassies of the EU Member States in Sofia, Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry said on Friday. The meeting was organized on the initiative of Hungarian Ambassador Miklos Boros, whose country is holding the rotating EU Council Presidency.
The meeting focused on the topics on the EU agenda. Kondov expressed his expectation for a positive decision of the EU Council by the end of 2024 on lifting the Schengen land border controls for Bulgaria.
Among the matters discussed was EU enlargement, based on the own merit principle in fulfilment of conditions and commitments.
Kondov and the European Ambassadors exchanged positions on current developments in the Middle East, the continued support for Ukraine in response to Russian aggression and other issues on the international agenda.
Ivan Kondov also highlighted Bulgaria's good progress towards membership of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), noting the active cooperation between all Bulgarian structures responsible for it and the OECD committees.
