The 26th Sofia Motor Show officially opened at Sofia’s Inter Expo Center on Friday through to October 27.

Deputy Minister of Transport Dimitar Nedyalkov said that the Ministry supports such events because they are part of the policies that the ministry pursues. The Deputy Minister said that one of the policies is for clean vehicles, and the exhibition showcases such vehicles. The other thing that is extremely important is security, he noted, adding that in new vehicles, passengers are more protected with the help of various technologies.

Andrey Novakov, a member of the European Parliament and of the Committee on Transport and Tourism, said that the future belongs to clean technologies, of which electromobility is a part. He said that there are several challenges that need to be addressed. “The fact that Bulgaria is experiencing one of the largest increases in new car registrations in Europe should not reassure us, because car accident fatalities must fall dramatically. In addition, the infrastructure in our country must be improved,” the MEP said.

Alexander Kostadinov, chairman of the Association of Automobile Importers, said there are two international exhibitions in Europe this year. One has been taking place in Paris for a few days and the second is in Sofia. "The Bulgarian show is much bigger than the Paris one - with many more premieres and participants," Kostadinov said. He believes that this is a chance to show the Bulgarian public the new trends in the automotive industry. He expressed hope that such a forum will also help the country to create an environment that will improve mobility in Bulgaria, as well as reduce the average age of the car fleet in the country.

According to the organizers, the Sofia Motor Show is one of Europe's largest car shows, and this year will feature the latest generation of cars, technologies and attractions, which will be spread across six exhibition halls as well as an open-air exhibition area in front of Inter Expo Center. The fair is part of the official calendar of the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA).

The show will feature more than 200 vehicles of various classes and sizes by over 40 manufacturers.
