A Bulgarian delegation attended a working meeting on Antarctic cooperation at the National Centre of Meteorology in Abu Dhabi, said the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute Wednesday. The meeting is taking place October 15-17.
It is focused on scientific cooperation and the possibility of a future United Arab Emirates research programme in Antarctica.
The meeting is attended by prominent polar researchers from Chile, Germany, Turkiye, Norway, Australia, Denmark, Malaysia, India and China.
The Bulgarian delegation is represented by Prof. Hristo Pimpirev, Dr. Rositsa Yaneva and Dragomir Mateev, who presented plenary reports on Bulgaria's activities in Antarctica.
The President of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and Director of the Centre, Abdullah Al Mandus, opened the event and at his request at a special meeting it was agreed that the Bulgarian Antarctic Base would host two experts from the centre. These will be the first scientists from the United Arab Emirates to work in Antarctica.
