The heating season in Sofia is not at risk, as Bulgargaz will not stop the supply of natural gas to Sofia's heating utility company, said Mayor of Sofia Vasil Terziev after a meeting with the caretaker Minister of Energy Vladimir Malinov in the building of the Energy Ministry. According to Terziev, other topics are currently being discussed, such as how to improve the financial situation of the Sofia district heating company in the short, medium and long term.

"We have outlined a plan, and by the end of the week the first step for the most pressing liabilities is due. In the medium term, by mid-November we should see how the whole heating season is shaping up. The third important point that we have agreed on is to form a working group with representatives of Sofia Municipality, the Municipal Council, the district heating company, as well as the companies and the Ministry of Energy to draw a plan for the long-term recovery of Sofia district heating company," Vasil Terziev said.

In early October, Bulgargaz distrained one account of the Sofia heating utility company over a default on its debts. In early comments, local politicians said they were concerned over that development in the context of the upcoming heating season. Representatives of the heating company and Bulgargaz rushed to assure Sofianites that the distraint would not affect the normal operation of the central heating operator.
