A seminar titled Science in Antarctica - Bulgaria and Spain in Antarctica will be held on October 3, 2024 at the Egg Hall of Sofia University, the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute (BAI) said here on Monday.
Scientific research in Antarctica is of great importance in areas such as meteorology and climatology, for understanding atmospheric and oceanic relationships, climate change, among other fields of interest to contemporary societies. However, among the non-expert public there is little knowledge of the work of the scientific community on this continent.
The aim of this seminar is, on the one hand, to present the origins, development and current state of the excellent bilateral cooperation in scientific and logistical matters in Antarctica that Spain and Bulgaria have been developing for more than thirty years. On the other hand, the seminar has an informative function. It aims to explain what Bulgarian scientists are doing in Antarctica and why research in this field is vital to better manage the environmental challenges facing the planet, the IBA notes.
The event will be held in 3 working languages - English, Spanish and Bulgarian with simultaneous interpretation.
