site.btaSofia Hosts #BeActiveNight during European Week of Sport
Over 60 Bulgarian sport federations and clubs presented their activities during two events of the European Week of Sport. The events, called Sport Town and #BeActiveNight, drew the interest of hundreds of people in Sofia.
Opening #BeActiveNight, Youth and Sports Minister Georgi Glushkov said: "I am happy to see so many children and young people practice sports. I want to thank the sport federations and the sport clubs which have joined the campaign and have popularized physical activity. Many thanks also to the parents who encourage their kids to do sports."
The event was attended by the Bulgarian ambassadors of the initiative, who are successful athletes, champions and medallists from Olympic Games, world and European championships. These included boxers Stoyka Krasteva, Stanimira Petrova and Svetlana Kamenova, rhythmic gymnasts Boryana Kaleyn, Reneta Kamberova and Stiliana Nikolova, sabre fencer Yoana Ilieva, artistic gymnast Valentina Georgieva, badminton player Gabriela Stoeva, wrestler Evelina Nikolova and football player Blagoy Georgiev.
Minister Glushkov said: "These great Bulgarian athletes have shown that when you have a goal and work every day, you make it. They are wonderful role models for the children."
The Sport Town offered visitors a chance to learn about many sports and to receive information materials from the sport federations. The initiative continued with athletic demonstrations and performances by singers Dara Ekimova and Dia.
In Bulgaria, the European Week of Sport continues with a #BeActiveTour, which includes events in Kazanlak, Nova Zagora, Haskovo, Kardzhali and Nedelino.
#BeActive is an initiative of the European Commission to promote sport and physical activity among EU citizens. The national coordinator for Bulgaria is the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The project is funded under the EU Erasmus+ Programme.
