site.btaVice President: 50th National Assembly's Last Sitting Was Highly Offensive to Bulgaria's People
The 50th National Assembly's last sitting ended in a way that is above all very offensive to us, the Bulgarian citizens," Vice President Iliana Iotova told BTA on Saturday in Madzharovo, Southeastern Bulgaria. Iotova was asked to comment on the last day of Bulgaria's 50th Parliament, which was Friday, September 27, when also began parties' election campaign for the snap vote on October 27.
According to her, the short mandates of the most recent parliaments indicate a severe political crisis. But whatever the political crisis, Bulgarian MPs should work and live with the awareness that they are elected representatives by the Bulgarian people, Iotova said.
She stressed that the last few hours of the work of the 50th National Assembly were humiliating for the Bulgarian society. According to her, a large part of the Bulgarian citizens did not understand at all what happened in those hours.
"We saw some silent pictures, some people throwing remarks at each other, accusing each other of corruption, theft, but anyway it was not clear what exactly happened there. And the problem is exceptionally serious because it concerns the daily bread of several tens of thousands of people in the Maritsa East mines," Iotova stressed.
Iotova expressed hope that the East maritsa Mines issue will also be on the campaign agenda and in people's minds when they go to cast their ballot on October 27. "Let's make this time a truly worthy choice so that we are not angry with ourselves afterwards," she urged.
The Vice President was attending the National Pilgrimage Day of Thracian Memory at the memorial complex with a pantheon - ossuary near the Eastern Rhodope town of Madzharovo.
