Bulgaria highly values its partnership with the Basel Institute on Governance aimed at enhancing effectiveness in the fight against corruption, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev has said at a meeting with the head of the independent Swiss organization, Dr Peter Maurer, in New York.
Radev added that "Bulgaria will continue to rely on the Institute's expertise regarding this highly sensitive topic for the Bulgarian public".
The Basel Institute on Governance is dedicated to preventing and combating corruption and other financial crimes. Its partnership with Bulgaria is implemented under the Bulgarian-Swiss Cooperation Programme.
During the meeting, the sides discussed ways to continue their cooperation in improving the legal framework regulating the activities of the institutions. The aim is to foster transparency and accountability and to adapt the national legislation in view of Bulgaria's ambitions to join the Schengen area and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.
Radev was on a working visit to the US from September 24 to 26 to lead the Bulgarian delegation and represent this country at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
