Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivan Kondov, who spoke at the G20 Ministerial Meeting in New York on Wednesday, said that maintaining the rules on which the international order depends and strengthening their legitimacy is one of the key tasks facing multilateralism, while forums such as the G20 make an important contribution in this regard, the Foreign Ministry reported on Thursday. The meeting was part of the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly taking place between September 24 and 30.

The forum aimed to discuss ways to strengthen the multilateral system to achieve peace, stability in the world, as well as opportunities to strengthen commitment to the principles of the UN Charter, the promotion of Agenda 2030, international law and diplomacy.

Kondov brought up the Pact for the Future, adopted by the UN General Assembly days ago, expressing hope that the institutionalized summit mechanism that worked well in the 1970s and which is the foundation of the G20's operations today would help advance this reform agenda.

The Bulgarian Foreign Minister also expressed his gratitude to the Brazilian presidency for allowing all member states to participate in this G20 ministerial meeting at the UN headquarters.
